The Wyoming Disability Awareness Walk began in 2005 in Casper and was originally called the "Building Bridges of Opportunity Awareness Walk". Approximately 100-150 people participated and the event was held in the gym at the Casper Recreation Center.
The event officially became the "Wyoming Disability Awareness Walk" in 2007 when the event expanded into Rock Springs, Worland and Cody, Wyoming. By 2008, the walk had evolved into a statewide event that brought in approximately 600 people and became a community fundraising event. Over the past two years, the Wyoming Disability Awareness Walk has raised over $40,000 for community projects such as, wheelchair accessible playground equipment, a state-of-the-art pool lift, push-button doors and ice sleds to assure accessible recreational opportunities to people with disabilities.
2010 marks our 6th annual event and we are expanding into Fremont County, with a walk to be hosted by Community Entry Services in Riverton. Our goal for 2010 is to bring in 1000 walkers and we hope you will help us do it
