CLIENT SERVICES - COMMUNITY LIVING
Long-term residences for adults with disabilities are provided through our Community Living Department. The vision of NOWCAP Services is to advance and sponsor community housing, assisted living opportunities, and related services on behalf of people with developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries. We promote and encourage the individual empowerment of all persons with significant challenges so that each may pursue his or her highest possible degree of personal well-being and independence.
NOWCAP Services offers several options for community living to people with disabilities and acquired brain injuries. With 14 group homes, a 22-unit apartment building and a 6-unit handicap accessible apartment facility, NOWCAP creates a variety of community living opportunities. In addition to providing support for people with intense medical needs, NOWCAP also provides In-Home Support and respite care in the family home setting.
Community living options are evaluated and supports are placed based on individualized needs. All participants are interviewed prior to the development of supports to assure that their preferences and needs are being met, and that they are given freedom to create homes that reflect their tastes as well as their daily needs.
In their homes people learn daily living skills, form relationships, and gain confidence in their own capacity to enjoy life, contribute to their community and live independently. Direct Care Professionals provide skill training, offer daily support, and facilitate relationships with neighbors and local businesses. Staff assists the people supported in learning flexibility, tolerance, and other skills needed to thrive in a community setting.
